Calligraphy of Color - Full Bloom

Gesture drawing with the use of color, that was my goal here. Admiring Japanese Calligraphy, I strived for an effortless brushstroke. I am happy with the result and what I feel is a breakthrough. Please enjoy "Calligraphy of Color - Full Bloom" 6" x 6" Oil on Panel.

Garden of surprises

A few years back my husband and I removed the old overgrown shrubs in front of the house. We also removed about 100 flower bulbs from the beds! (The previous home owner was a avid gardener and planted a wide variety of flowers EVERYWHERE). Since the flowers did not fit our new landscape design I relocated the bulbs to other flower beds in the back yard. Well, we thought we removed all the bulbs from the front beds but, each spring and summer since we are pleasantly surprised when a Tulip pops up over here, a Gladiolus pops over there, a Hyacinth  back there. This summer one especially stunning fiery orange-red Gladiolus with massive blooms the size of grapefruits popped up in the front bed in between the shrubs. Within a few days the flowers were fading quickly because of the summer heat so I cut the stalk and put it in water. I knew I had to paint this beauty!! This is the first of two paintings. Please enjoy one of the members from our Garden of Surprises - "Gladiolus" 6" x 6" Oil on Panel.

Not to mention that I love painting water in vases and the reflections that they cast.  I tried to keep my brushwork loose (and a little abstract).  Please enjoy this beautiful bouquet of  "Red Roses" 6" x 6" Oil on Panel.
