Handsome Harlequin
Named for his harlequin black and white coat, Harley came into Adele and Peter's life at 5 weeks old. They told me he is friendly, very vocal when he wants food and is now 14!
I have to admit that at first I was a little intimidated by Harley. How do I paint a black and white cat? I don't even use out-of-the-tube Ivory Black in my palette! I couldn't see Harley's eyes clearly in the reference photo Adele sent me . I put aside all these excuses, knowing I could not let Adele and Peter down ( it was her favorite photo of Harley after all), I had to try and paint him. After several failed paintings of his whole body, all of which were very dark, I decided to paint just Harley's face. Not until I enlarged the reference photo did I discover how colorful this handsome guy really is!
