Homage to O'Keeffe

"Well - I made you take time to look at what I saw..."

                           Georgia O'Keeffe, American Artist

I have three tulip plants in my garden that are always the first flowers to bloom in May,  heralding in the  warmer weather. Cutting a few crimson blooms from one of the plants,  my  intention was to paint a beautiful bouquet of tulips in a vase. But, under the bright lights in my studio, the tulips opened so quickly and squashed that idea!  By revealing their fascinating interiors the tulips showed me how THEY wanted  to painted. As I studied the colors inside each bloom, I thought of one of my favorite painters, the great Georgia O'Keeffe and her simple yet elegantly detailed flower paintings. She wanted you to see what she saw. I hope you see what I saw peering over the edge of the petals - nature's beauty! Please enjoy "Faded Crimson" 6"x 6" Oil on Panel.
