Nadine Yura - Calligraphy of Color

A little abstraction

I happened to come across this 5" X 6"  Ink over Watercolor in one of my sketchbooks. I had some small  left over pieces of watercolor paper and decided to experiment with color and shapes, then added a little ink. Just a  little abstraction for you!

Blue Silks

This painting was done in early April. I wanted to paint some flowers to celebrate the arrival of Spring, but because of the cold temperatures we were still experiencing none of the flowers in my garden had bloomed yet so I decided to paint this small bouquet of silk flowers instead!

Twin Reflections

As promised a more recent painting....from February! This is one of those paintings that almost painted itself, just fun to paint.  I love the bowl and the abstract forms made by the reflections.

One more for you

Here is one more of my first few small paintings. I back-lit an arrangement of small perfume bottles to accentuate the colors of the liquid through the glass. Tomorrow I'll start posting more recent works...stay tuned!

Red, Green and Blue

Here is the second small painting I did of more Christmas ornaments when I was taking the tree down back in December 2017.  I tried to be more purposeful with my brush strokes to define the reflections. Also, tried to be a little looser with the paint. I love it , hope you do too!

Welcome to my blog!

This blog is the result of a commitment I made back in December 2017 to draw and paint everyday to become a better,  more productive artist and most importantly to enjoy creating art.

In March of 2016 my Mom passed away.  Having been her caregiver for years and then watching as hospice allowed her to gracefully pass away REALLY affected me. I was in a very dark place personally and I also was in a dark place artistically..... I could not think of a single thing paint or draw! I even thought "Why should I create artwork at all if you are just going to die?". Oh yeah, it was bad!   Thankfully, with my husband's love and support I slowly regained strength emotionally which allowed me to re-focus on my art.

I thought about art school and how much I loved it. Why did I love it so much? The answer: I painted EVERY DAY. I drew EVERYVDAY! I decided to go back to "school" . I pulled out one my favorite books "The Natural Way to Draw" by Nicolaides .The daily exercises outlined in the book requires the student  to draw 3 to 4 hours per day every day. I made that commitment...and began again to draw.

I also discovered the Daily Painting movement. Painting one small painting every day or so. I made that commitment...and began again to paint.  I have created more paintings and drawings in the past 5 months than I have in the past 2 years! And the best part is that I have regained my love to draw and paint again!

As my husband, who has some serious health issues, always says to me "Enjoy every day!"

With my husband by my side and with God's grace, I am!

I hope you enjoy my blog and continue to  follow along with me on my artistic journey.

Thank you,

Nadine
